Central connecticut state falls to central michigan, 66-10
Central Michigan University (CMU) kicked off their 2024 football season in dominant fashion, overpowering Central Connecticut State 66-10. The Chippewas set the tone early and never looked back, showcasing a balanced attack that featured scoring through the air, on the ground, and on special teams.
The Chippewas wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Myles Bailey leading the charge. Bailey capped off CMU’s opening drive with a 7-yard touchdown run, putting the Chippewas ahead 7-0. However, Central Connecticut State responded quickly, tying the game at 7-7 with a 75-yard scoring drive.
CMU regained the lead almost immediately when Stephan Bracey Jr. returned the kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, putting the Chippewas up 14-7. From there, the Chippewas’ offense took control. B.J. Harris extended the lead with a 9-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Joe Labas followed up with two touchdown passes—a 47-yarder to Evan Boyd and a 17-yarder to Solomon Davis. Bailey added another score with a 2-yard run just before halftime, giving CMU a commanding 42-7 lead at the break.
CMU continued to pour it on in the second half. Tristan Mattson kicked a 26-yard field goal to start the third quarter, followed by a 68-yard punt return touchdown from Donte Kent. Labas connected with Solomon Davis again, this time for a 72-yard touchdown pass, before Aakeem Snell capped off the scoring with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown.
When the dust settled, the Chippewas had scored in nearly every way possible: three touchdowns through the air, two on the ground, one on a punt return, another on a kickoff return, and one on a pick-six. It was a complete team effort that set a high standard for the rest of the season.

Despite the strong start, Mercyhurst quickly responded. Urena connected with Russell Pytlak for a 10-yard touchdown just two minutes after Wheeling's initial score, tying the game at 7-7. The Cardinals managed to take a brief lead again with a 37-yard field goal by Joao Lima early in the second quarter, but Urena and the Lakers answered back with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Barmore.
The game’s momentum shifted in the third quarter when Urena found Barmore for another touchdown, this time a 4-yard pass that extended Mercyhurst’s lead to 28-17. This touchdown proved crucial as it gave the Lakers a comfortable lead heading into the final quarter.
Wheeling didn’t go down without a fight. With just 23 seconds left in the game, Davis connected with Holloway again for a 33-yard touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion run by Holloway himself. This brought the score to 28-25, giving the Cardinals a glimmer of hope. However, Mercyhurst recovered the ensuing onside kick, effectively sealing their victory.

The Rockets took control early and never looked back, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive resilience.
Toledo wasted no time setting the tone, scoring on their opening drive with a nine-play, 65-yard march down the field. The drive was capped off by a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tucker Gleason to wide receiver Junior Vandeross, giving the Rockets an early 7-0 lead.
The Rockets struck again later in the first quarter, this time with an eight-yard touchdown run by Jacquez Stuart, extending their lead to 14-0. Duquesne responded with a four-yard touchdown pass from Darius Perrantes to Noah Cante, cutting Toledo's lead in half at 14-7.
Toledo quickly regained momentum when Gleason connected with Jerjuan Newton for a spectacular 54-yard touchdown. Newton broke a tackle and weaved his way into the end zone, putting the Rockets up 21-7 as the first quarter came to a close.
Duquesne managed to add three more points early in the second quarter with a 22-yard field goal, capping off a methodical 13-play drive that chewed up over seven minutes. However, Toledo's defense recovered a Duquesne fumble that gave the Rockets excellent field position.
Gleason made the Dukes pay for the mistake, finding tight end Anthony Torres for a 14-yard touchdown pass, pushing Toledo's lead to 28-10 with just under two minutes left in the first half.
The second half began with a miscue from Duquesne, as Toledo recovered a fumble on the kickoff, setting up the Rockets on the Duquesne 38-yard line. Taking full advantage of the short field, Jacquez Stuart powered into the end zone from one yard out, increasing Toledo's lead to 35-10.
Toledo continued to dominate, with Willie Shaw finding the end zone on a 10-yard run, making it 42-10 and effectively putting the game out of reach for Duquesne.
In the final quarter, the Rockets added one more touchdown to their tally. Freshman wide receiver Zy'marion Lang hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback John Alan Richter, capping off the scoring at 49-10.
Toledo's victory over Duquesne was a showcase of their depth and versatility.
