Blue Devils Gain 300th Win in Opening Weekend for Women’s Soccer

It wasn’t the easiest opening weekend for NEC soccer, but the highlight was worth it.

CCSU earned the program’s 300th victory in their win over Lafayette on Sunday, posting a 2-0 win to go to 1-1 on the season. Riley Powers got the Blue Devils on the board early with Gabby Smith adding insurance in the 76th minute. Keeper Melina Ford posted a clean sheet. The Blue Devils, now 1-1, needed 7 saves to keep Lafayette off the board. CCSU began their women’s soccer program in 1995.

The Blue Devils will be back in action for a Sunday night kick against Albany 8/23.

The other win came from the Wagner Seahawks, who posted a 2-1 win over traditional rival Monmouth. They’ll be back at it on Sunday morning at Manhattan.
